ABOUT THE PROJECT
AND WHY

From 2018 to 2019, I worked as a part-time pharmacy assistant for cover my own expense and tuition for my school where my responsibilities included explaining treatments, guiding patients, and dispensing medications based on doctors' prescriptions.

During this time, I noticed a challenge: patients, particularly seniors, often struggled to remember, understand, and manage their multiple medications it cause a problem that they cannot taking medication on time and on prescribed.

I've also identified a significant gap in the application and technology market—a lack of user-friendly solutions specifically designed to help senior patients easily comprehend their medications and stay on schedule with their treatments.

Solution

Simpler Onboarding page

Using SMS-based authentication with auto-fill verification codes streamlines the login and signup process while sending reminders based on the user’s schedule, creating a seamless and user-friendly experience.

Multi Languages Support

Provide built-in multi-language support system to improve user experience

Adjustable Font size

Elderly users often experience declining eyesight, and small screens can be challenging for them. Adding a language support feature to the onboarding page enhances accessibility and usability.

Ui Gesture Animation

Tutorial Onboarding Page

When designing this  application I've observed a lot of how senior using mobile devices. As the result, senior citizens are often overwhelmed by complex interfaces, especially they don’t know how to open and close a page or how to interact with the next interface.

How does it works

By scanning the medicine label—it essentially like a "passport" and include all critical informations such as pharmacy and doctor’s prescription.

AI Voice Command & Assistant

User research reveals that most elderly users are comfortable with basic mobile functions

like taking photos or answering calls. Leveraging this insight, I integrated AI voice command feature to increase the accessbility.

Iteration

In this project, I focused on auto-scan feature, conducting user testing based on their feedback to improve the product design and enhance the overall user experience.

Prototype 1 User flow

User opened camera

System detecting medicine bottle.

The user receives a prompt and switches camera

User Testing

Task

  • Open camera and try to scan the drug bottle

  • Place the bottle in the box

Observations

Users struggled with the auto-scan feature due to confusion from the initial "scanning" prompt, which lacked clarity on what to scan.

They only understood the task after a second prompt directed them to switch to the rear camera.

What is scanning? What to scan?
How to switch back camera?

Iteration

Added a UI gesture animation to guide users on switching the camera,

Designed a box to guide the user to place the bottle in the correct position

Directional arrows guide users to rotate the bottle, ensuring all necessary information is captured during the scan

The unnecessary front camera becomes an extra step and cannot effectively allow users to use the automatic scanning function.

Can we make it simpler?

Yes, I disable the front camera.

I observed how people use the auto-scan feature in various scenarios, which helped me iterate and simplify the process.

For example:

How users use image recognition to automatically scan and add passport or ID information for ticket purchases.
How do they use the auto-recognition feature to identify and scan products to looking for similar one on e-commerce platfrom.

How senior users use scanning features?

Due to vision challenges, they tend to hold the bottle close to their eyes and scan it while it in their hands, rather than placing it on the table.

Observation:
Can the elderly use the bank check deposit feature correctly without guidance? Why?

Disable the front camera
Change to flashlight

Added stroke to the medicine bottle to more intuitive to guide patients to place the medicine bottle in the correct position
